Bauchi State of Nigeria, 7th day of March, 2024: The Council For Affirmative Action (COFAA) proudly joins the global community in observing International Women’s Day 2024, marking this occasion with a concerted effort to foster ‘Inspire Inclusion.’ Our focus for this year centers on amplifying the voices and contributions of trans women in the pursuit of environmental justice and addressing climate change challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa.
In a world grappling with complex ecological issues, COFAA recognizes the imperative of inclusive strategies for sustainable solutions. ‘Inspire Inclusion’ underscores our commitment to breaking barriers and ensuring that all women, including trans women, are integral participants in environmental conversations and actions.
Trans women in Sub-Saharan Africa, often marginalized and facing multiple layers of discrimination, possess unique insights and experiences that can significantly enrich discussions on environmental justice. COFAA calls upon stakeholders at various levels, including governments, NGOs, and the private sector, to recognize the intersectionality of gender identity and environmental concerns. By embracing diversity, we believe we can forge more effective and equitable paths toward climate resilience.
The ‘Inspire Inclusion’ campaign is not just a call to action; it is a commitment to fostering environments where trans women in Sub-Saharan Africa are not only heard but actively contribute to shaping policies and practices that address the environmental challenges our planet faces. COFAA emphasizes the importance of intersectional approaches in ensuring that no woman is left behind in the fight for a sustainable and just future.
This International Women’s Day, let us unite in the pursuit of environmental justice, recognizing that inclusivity is not just a moral imperative but a strategic necessity. COFAA extends its hand in collaboration, urging all stakeholders to champion the rights and involvement of trans women for a more resilient and ecologically sustainable Sub-Saharan Africa.
