A Multi-Stakeholders Dialogue, organized by the Better Life Restoration Initiative (BERI) in collaboration with the Council for Affirmative Action (COFAA), has brought together key stakeholders in the Kebbi State health sector to accelerate improvements in healthcare services. The dialogue aimed at fostering an integrated approach to supportive supervision across the state.

Mr. Ogadinma Nkem Ogbonnaya, the Program Manager of BERI, emphasized the importance of integrated supportive supervision as a crucial tool for effective healthcare delivery, particularly in rural areas of Kebbi State. He noted that the initiative, supported by the USAID-funded Strengthening Civil Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE) project, aims to establish a dedicated budget line for integrated supportive supervision. This budget line would ensure the availability of resources for the adequate supervision of approximately 1,014 Primary Health Care Centers (PHCs) in the state.

Mr. Ogbonnaya, who also leads the Health System Strengthening (HSS) cluster, highlighted the project’s goal to create a technical working group. This group would act as a liaison between the government and the public, ensuring continuous feedback on integrated supportive supervision to enhance healthcare outcomes in rural communities.

He stressed that investing in integrated supportive supervision would attract both private and international non-governmental organizations to collaborate with the government, as the government alone cannot achieve effective healthcare delivery.

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, represented by the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Yunusah Musa Ismail, pledged to include a budget line for integrated supportive supervision in the 2025 budget. The Governor expressed appreciation to the organizers for the timely conduct of the dialogue and announced plans to employ over 500 trained health personnel upon his return from Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to strengthen healthcare delivery, especially in rural areas.

Commissioner Ismail assured the participants of the administration’s commitment to efficient healthcare delivery and encouraged them to utilize the knowledge gained from the dialogue to support the government’s efforts in their respective communities.

The dialogue marks a significant step towards ensuring sustainable and effective healthcare services in Kebbi State through integrated supportive supervision.
